Product Description: Gutenprint, formerly named Gimp-Print, is a suite of printer drivers that may be used with most common UNIX print spooling systems, including CUPS, lpr, LPRng, or others. These drivers provide high quality printing for UNIX (including Macintosh OS X 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4) and Linux systems that in many cases equal or exceed proprietary vendor-supplied drivers in quality and functionality, and can be used for demanding printing tasks requiring flexibility and high quality. This software package includes an enhanced Print plug-in for the GIMP that replaces the plug-in packaged with the GIMP, and Ghostscript and CUPS drivers, as well as Foomatic data supporting the Ghostscript driver. What's new in this version: Gutenprint 5.0.2-beta1 (5.0.1.98.1) is a beta release of the stable branch of Gutenprint 5.0. The 5.0.2-beta1 release supports additional printers and offers some important bug fixes over 5.0.1. The most important changes are: Fixed an issue in Mac OSX 10.5.x (Leopard) where the printing system was not obtaining the proper resolution from the Print Quality setting and was defaulting to the lowest printer resolution found. All supplied CUPS PPD files are now perfectly compliant with the PPD specification, as tested under CUPS 1.2. Added Gutenprint Utility for EPSON Inkjet Printers. The text based user interface will allow for running nozzle checks, cleaning of the print heads, and alignment of print heads for EPSON inkjet printers supported by Gutenprint drivers. The stable branch (5.0.x) retains support for HP Business Inkjet, DeskJet, Photosmart, OfficeJet, and Color LaserJet printers that has been dropped from the developmental branch.
